Place de Bastille

This bustling square in the northeast of Paris has a long and interesting history and is named after the infamous prison that was overrun in 1789. Over the years, it has become a community hub and is the site of everything from rock concerts to political demonstrations.

Place du Tertre
+ My Favorites
Located in Paris' famous Montmartre district, the picturesque Place du Tertre is perhaps second only to the Sacre Coeur as the arrondissement's main tourist attraction. In the early 1900s, many artists (some of them well known) lived in the area and painted at this square and today the tradition carries on. Each day, dozens of artists set up their easels and offer their works to the hundreds of passing tourists.
