The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 for the Exposition. Designed by Gustave Eiffel, an engineer who constructed high level railway viaducts, the tower stands over 300 meters, and was once the tallest building in the world. The elevator takes visitors to its three separate floors, and each level offers visitors something different. The first floor has, among others, a display featuring all the exhibitions the Eiffel Tower has been a part of, as well as a post office that allows mail to be stamped with a special "Paris Tour Eiffel" postmark. The second floor has animated window scenes showing the history of the Tower's construction. The third floor has a representation of Gustave Eiffel's office. With the third level at 276 meters, it is possible to see all of Paris on a clear day. Every night, the tower is illuminated by over 300 sodium yellow-orange tint lamps. Two high-powered light beams were added to the top of the Tower in 2000, and they can be seen up to 80 kilometers away.
